Pure silk duvet covers, designed for everyday beauty

A duvet cover sets the tone of the room. In silk, it becomes something you enjoy with your eyes and your hands: the soft fall of the fabric, the way a fold catches the light, the smooth surface as you draw it around you. Mayfairsilk brings that pleasure to bed linen designed in London.

Our duvet covers are made from 100% Grade 6A long-fibre Mulberry silk in 22 Momme. Each piece is individually hand-cut and machine-stitched, with our signature soft-touch matte finish. The fabric has a quiet, pearlescent lustre and a fluid drape that makes a freshly dressed bed feel inviting.

Choose your silk duvet cover size

Match the cover to the duvet insert, rather than choosing by mattress size alone. A generous duvet may be a size larger than the bed beneath it, and international size names can be different. Measure the insert's width and length, then compare the actual dimensions.

Our range includes UK Single, Double, King, Super King and Emperor, with availability varying by design. UK King duvet covers measure 230 × 220 cm; UK Super King measures 260 × 220 cm. Use our full bedding size chart for the other sizes and check the selected product before ordering.

A duvet cover is the outer fabric case for your existing duvet. It is different from a silk-filled duvet, which describes the filling inside. Check the product listing for exactly what is included; sheets and pillowcases can be selected separately to suit your bed.

Colour that makes the room feel like yours

Colour that makes the room feel like yours

Choose warm Ivory, Cream or Champagne, cool Oyster Grey or Pastel Blue, deep Midnight Blue or Charcoal, or the warmth of Precious Pink. Brilliant White and Teal Breeze extend the range. Check the product grid for the colours and sizes available now. Keep the bed quietly tonal or introduce contrast through a border, a turned-back sheet or a printed pillowcase. Ivory framed in Oyster Grey and Brilliant White with Champagne show how an Oxford border can make the whole bedroom feel more personal. The soft lustre of silk brings depth to simple colours, so even an understated palette has interest in changing light.

Coordinate with a silk fitted sheet or add a separate silk flat sheet beneath the duvet. Complete the bed with 25 Momme silk pillowcases, choosing a plain colour or a print that feels personal. Their smooth surface helps reduce hair friction, tangling, frizz and friction-related breakage, as well as temporary sleep creases, bringing the silk feeling right up to your pillows. You can also combine a silk duvet cover with your existing bed linen. Mix silk sheets with a pair of silk pillowcases or explore silk bedding sets for a complete, elegant look. The range of silk bed sheets makes it possible to upgrade the layers in the order that matters to you. Silk bed linen is an investment in a fabric you touch every day, with years of enjoyment possible when it is cared for appropriately. Explore the full silk bedding collection to build your preferred layers.

A clean outline or an Oxford border

Small design details change the character of a bed. A Classic duvet cover gives a simple outline and lets the fabric and colour lead. Contrast-piped styles add a fine line of definition without a wide border. Oxford designs add a decorative border, framing the duvet and giving the bed a more defined finish.

Explore tonal combinations such as Oyster Grey, or a lighter centre framed with a contrasting border where available. Look closely at the product photographs and description to choose the finish you prefer. A border changes the look of the cover; the size selector should still match the duvet insert.

Why 22 Momme Mulberry silk?

Momme is the measure of silk fabric weight. Silk duvet covers commonly come in weights around 19–25 Momme. Our 22 Momme silk has enough substance for bed linen while remaining supple and fluid. Quality also depends on the long-fibre Grade 6A silk, the weave and the finish, all of which contribute to softness and durability. When comparing fabric credentials, a STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX label concerns testing for harmful substances; Momme describes fabric weight. They tell you different things. It is a different measure from the thread count commonly used for cotton duvet covers, so compare fibre composition, Momme, weave and finishing together.

Silk is a natural fibre; satin is a weave. A satin duvet cover can be made from silk, polyester or another material. Mayfairsilk duvet covers are pure Mulberry silk, rather than synthetic satin or a silk blend. Our soft-touch matte finish gives them a subtle sheen without the high-gloss appearance some people associate with silk bedding. This is everyday luxury expressed in the cloth: expertly crafted, durable bed linen that earns its place each evening and still looks inviting in the morning.

A smooth layer for your nightly routine

The naturally smooth surface feels soft against the skin and moves easily as you turn. Its gentle glide creates less friction against skin and hair, adding to the comfort of the fabric. Silk is naturally breathable and feels cool at first touch. The lightweight, fluid feel adds comfort without the stiffness of heavier cloth. Its temperature regulating qualities help support a comfortable sleep environment, making it a lovely fabric for year round use. A smooth surface can feel gentle against sensitive skin, while absorbing less moisture than highly absorbent cotton.

Your duvet filling, tog rating and room temperature still determine much of the warmth of the bed. Choose the duvet insert for the season and your own preference, then enjoy the feeling of silk around it. The right combination makes this a layer to enjoy in summer and winter. Silk is naturally hypoallergenic, which may appeal to allergy sufferers looking for a gentle surface. It does not prevent allergies or replace advice about a diagnosed condition.

How to care for a silk duvet cover

Mayfairsilk duvet covers are machine washable on a silk or delicate cycle, or can be gently hand washed. Use water below 30°C, a mesh laundry bag and a pH-neutral, enzyme-free detergent suitable for silk. Wash separately from rough fabrics and avoid bleach and fabric softener.

Air dry in the shade, away from direct sunlight and radiators. Do not wring or tumble dry. Once clean and fully dry, store folded in a cool, dry place. Follow the product label and our silk washing guide for full instructions. Before ordering, review the returns terms: our extended 30-day return period for other full-price products requires unused, resalable condition.

Silk duvet cover questions, answered

Is this a silk duvet or a silk duvet cover?

This collection is for silk duvet covers: the outer case that goes around your duvet insert. A silk-filled duvet is a different product. Check the individual listing for the exact contents.

What size silk duvet cover fits a UK King duvet?

Our UK King duvet cover measures 230 × 220 cm. UK Super King measures 260 × 220 cm. Measure your duvet insert and compare it with the full size chart, especially if it was bought outside the UK.

What is an Oxford duvet cover?

An Oxford duvet cover has a decorative border that frames the duvet. The border may match the main fabric or provide contrast. Check the product photographs and description for the specific design.

Can a silk duvet cover be machine washed?

Yes, following the product label. Use a silk or delicate cycle below 30°C, suitable pH-neutral, enzyme-free detergent and a mesh laundry bag. Air dry in the shade; do not tumble dry.

Will a silk duvet cover make my bed too warm?

The duvet insert does most of the insulating. Choose its tog rating for summer or winter and your room temperature, then use the silk cover for its smooth, naturally breathable surface. Silk helps regulate temperature, but it cannot make a high-tog duvet behave like a summer one. Your mattress and sleepwear matter too.

Does a duvet cover include sheets or pillowcases?

An individual duvet cover does not include a fitted sheet, flat sheet or pillowcases unless the listing says so. For a coordinated purchase, explore our silk duvet sets, which combine a duvet cover, fitted sheet and two pillowcases. Check the contents and dimensions of the selected set before adding it to your basket.

Is Mulberry silk different from ordinary silk or satin?

Mulberry silk is real silk, a natural fibre. “100% silk” describes composition; the Mulberry name identifies the type of silk. Mayfairsilk uses long-fibre Grade 6A Mulberry silk rather than a synthetic blend. Satin describes a weave and may be made from polyester. Compare the stated composition, Momme weight and finishing when choosing.

What are the practical drawbacks of silk duvet covers?

Silk needs a gentler wash than many cotton duvet covers. Use silk-safe detergent, allow room in the drum and air dry rather than tumble drying. Avoid catching the fabric on sharp jewellery or pulling hard when making the bed. These are pieces to enjoy for many nights with appropriate care, rather than a reason to reserve silk for special occasions. For someone who enjoys the smooth feel and fluid drape, those care habits become part of looking after a piece used every night.

Can I iron a silk duvet cover and remove wrinkles?

Yes, follow the care label and use a cool silk setting on the reverse while the fabric is slightly damp. Air dry away from direct sunlight first, avoiding radiators and tumble drying. A low-temperature iron can smooth fabric wrinkles; silk should not be stretched or pressed at high heat. Read our care guide for washing, stains and storage.

Where do you dispatch from, and can I return a duvet cover?

Orders are dispatched from our UK warehouse. Check delivery information for destination-specific services, charges and estimates. Other full-price products qualify for our extended 30-day returns period from delivery if unused, unwashed, unmarked and in resalable condition with original unmarked packaging. Sale items are outside the extended policy; statutory rights are unaffected. Please read the full returns terms before ordering.
