Pure silk fitted sheets, beautifully close to home
Kick off your slippers, pull back the duvet and feel the silk beneath you. A fitted sheet is the layer you return to every night. It should feel lovely against your skin, sit neatly on the mattress and bring the rest of the bed together. Mayfairsilk silk fitted sheets are made for all three, with a naturally smooth surface and a quiet, contemporary lustre.
We use 100% Grade 6A long-fibre Mulberry silk in 22 Momme. The fabric is individually hand-cut and machine-stitched, with an elasticated fit designed to wrap around the mattress. Our signature soft-touch matte finish gives the silk a supple feel and a subtle sheen, rather than a high-gloss look. The elasticated edges hold the sheet around the mattress while the woven silk surface lies smooth above it.
Mattress depth: find your fitted sheet size
A comfortable fit starts with measurements. Take the width and length of the mattress, then measure its full depth. Include a mattress topper or protector if it changes the overall height. Check the dimensions against our bedding size chart and the selected product variant.
The range includes the following fitted sheet sizes, with full width × length × depth dimensions:
- UK Single (90 x 190 x 35 cm)
- UK Double (140 x 190 x 30 cm)
- UK Double (140 x 190 x 35 cm)
- UK King (150 x 200 x 30 cm)
- UK King (150 x 200 x 35 cm)
- UK Super King / Euro Grand King (180 x 200 x 35 cm)
- UK Emperor / Euro Super King (200 x 200 x 35 cm)
Most fitted sheets are 35 cm deep, with some remaining 30 cm options. Availability varies by colour and size. Choose the depth explicitly where available; do not assume every colour has the same options.
A deep fitted silk sheet needs enough fabric to reach around the mattress without being stretched tight. This matters especially on thicker mattresses and beds with a topper. If you are between sizes or have an unfamiliar mattress size, contact us with the measurements before you order.
Colour for a bed that feels like yours
A plain fitted sheet creates a generous foundation of colour. Choose Ivory, Cream, Champagne or Brilliant White for a lighter bed; Oyster Grey for a soft neutral; Midnight Blue or Charcoal for depth. Precious Pink, Pastel Blue and Teal Breeze offer a different mood. Use the filters to see the available sizes and colours in the range. Choose a light neutral for an airy room, a warmer tone for softness, or a darker shade to anchor the bed. Bring in a contrasting border or printed pillowcase if you prefer a more individual combination.
Our silk bed sheets, duvet covers and silk pillowcases let you build a coordinated bed or mix colour and detail. Pair your sheet with a silk flat sheet for a separate top layer, or use it beneath a silk duvet cover. Complete the bed with 25 Momme silk pillowcases. Their smooth surface helps reduce hair friction, tangling and friction-related breakage, and can help minimise temporary sleep creases. Plain colours, designer prints and Oxford styles let you bring a different detail to your pillows. You can also begin with one fitted sheet and keep the bedding you already love. Why 22 Momme Mulberry silk?
Momme is a measure of silk fabric weight. It is a more useful starting point for comparing Mulberry silk sheets than the thread count used for cotton sheets. Silk bedding commonly comes in weights around 19–25 Momme. Our 22 Momme silk balances a substantial feel with a soft, fluid drape and the durability needed for regular use. Fibre quality, weave, construction and finishing all contribute to the experience.
Mulberry silk is a natural fibre, distinct from polyester satin and other materials described as silky. Satin is a weave and can be made from different fibres. For a pure Mulberry silk fitted sheet, check the composition as well as the appearance: ours is 100% silk.
A smoother layer for every season
Silk feels cool at first touch and is naturally breathable. Against the skin, the smooth fabric has less surface texture than a crisp cotton sheet. It is this tactile difference, the exceptional softness and easy glide, that makes sleeping in silk such a pleasure. Silk is a naturally temperature regulating protein fibre that feels soft against the body. Its breathability helps support a comfortable microclimate through the seasons. It absorbs less moisture than highly absorbent cotton, helping skin retain more of its natural moisture.
For year-round comfort, adjust the layers above you to the season. A fitted sheet does not determine the temperature of the whole bed: your duvet, mattress, room and preference matter too. On warmer nights, a lighter top layer may be all you want; in colder weather, choose a duvet that suits you.
Caring for your silk fitted sheet
Mayfairsilk bed sheets are machine washable on a silk or delicate cycle, or can be gently hand washed. Use water below 30°C and a pH-neutral, enzyme-free detergent suitable for silk. Wash separately in a mesh laundry bag and avoid bleach and fabric softener.
Air dry in the shade, away from direct sunlight and radiators. Once clean and completely dry, fold and store in a cool, dry place, ideally in a breathable cotton bag. Do not wring or tumble dry. When making the bed, ease the corners into place rather than pulling hard on one seam. Follow the product label and our silk care guide for washing, drying and bed-making advice.
Before ordering, check the selected size, depth and quantity on the product page. Other full-price products, including fitted sheets, can be returned within 30 days of delivery if unused and in resalable condition, subject to our full returns policy. We accept returns under those conditions; sale items are outside the extended policy and statutory rights are unaffected. Orders are dispatched from our UK warehouse. Check delivery information for Mainland UK, Northern Ireland and international services.
Silk fitted sheet questions, answered
How deep are the silk fitted sheets?
Most options are 35 cm deep, with some remaining 30 cm variants. The updated size labels show width × length × depth in centimetres. Check the exact dimensions in the product selector, as options vary by colour and size.
How do I measure a mattress with a topper?
Measure the total height of the mattress and the topper together, along with the mattress width and length. Compare those measurements with the selected fitted sheet and our bedding size chart.
What is the difference between a fitted and a flat sheet?
A fitted sheet wraps around the mattress with an elasticated fit. A flat sheet is a separate rectangular layer that can be used above the sleeper or tucked around the mattress. Choose according to how you like to make your bed.
Can I machine wash a silk fitted sheet?
Yes, following the product label. Use a silk or delicate cycle below 30°C, a mesh laundry bag and a pH-neutral, enzyme-free detergent suitable for silk. Air dry in the shade; do not tumble dry.
Will a silk fitted sheet stay on my mattress?
A good fit depends on the width, length and fitted sheet depth, as well as the elasticated edges. Choose a sheet with enough depth for your mattress and topper, so the silk remains comfortably smooth above it. Smooth the fabric into place without stretching it tightly. Silk does not stretch like a stretch-knit synthetic fabric, so the elasticated fit is there to secure it, rather than compensate for the wrong dimensions.
What size fitted sheet do I need for a UK King or Super King?
UK King is 150 x 200 x 35 cm, with selected 150 x 200 x 30 cm variants. UK Super King / Euro Grand King is 180 x 200 x 35 cm. UK Emperor / Euro Super King is 200 x 200 x 35 cm. Check the selected variant and our size chart, especially for a mattress bought outside the UK. Compare all three dimensions rather than relying on regional names.
Are silk fitted sheets comfortable for sensitive skin?
Silk's smooth surface lets skin glide with less friction than a rougher fabric, which can feel gentle against sensitive skin. Mulberry silk is naturally hypoallergenic, but it does not prevent allergies or treat a skin condition. Choose a silk-specific detergent that suits your skin, rinse thoroughly and wash bed linen regularly.
Are silk fitted sheets suitable for summer and winter?
Yes. Silk's breathable surface and temperature regulating properties make it suitable year round. In warmer weather, you may prefer a flat sheet or a lighter duvet above you. In winter, use a duvet with the warmth you prefer. Silk helps regulate temperature within your bedding, while your mattress, protector, room and sleepwear also affect comfort. Choose the combination that makes comfortable sleep feel natural to you.
Why do silk fitted sheets cost more than cotton or polyester?
Pure Mulberry silk is a different raw material from cotton or polyester, and its fibre quality, fabric weight, construction and finishing all contribute to the cost. With Mayfairsilk, you are choosing 22 Momme Grade 6A silk with our bespoke weave, soft-touch matte finish and London design. Compare composition, fit and feel alongside price. It is an investment in the surface you sleep on every night.
How do I dry, iron and store my silk fitted sheet?
Avoid tumble drying. Air dry away from direct sunlight and heat; never wring the wet silk. If needed, iron on a low silk setting on the reverse while slightly damp, following the care label. Store fully dry in a cool, dry place, preferably in a breathable cotton bag. Careful handling helps preserve the fabric's feel and appearance.
