Pure silk bed sheets with a different kind of feel
The pleasure of silk bedding is in the everyday moments. Drawing back the cover. Sliding into cool, smooth sheets. Seeing the light catch a fold of fabric in the morning. Mayfairsilk brings that feeling into bed linen designed to look as good in a lived-in bedroom as it feels against the skin.
Our silk sheets and duvet covers are made from 100% Grade 6A long-fibre Mulberry silk in a 22 Momme weight. The fabric is naturally breathable and luxuriously smooth, with a fluid drape and a soft-touch matte finish. Individually hand-cut and machine-stitched, each piece combines London design with careful attention to construction.
Pure silk bedding, piece by piece
Start with the layer you feel most. A silk fitted sheet covers the mattress with a smooth, close-fitting surface. Add a silk flat sheet if you like a separate top layer, generous folds and the freedom to tuck the bed your way.
A silk duvet cover completes the larger sweep of colour. Finish with our 25 Momme silk pillowcases, choosing a tonal pair or a contrasting print. Silk pillowcases use a different, more substantial silk weight from the 22 Momme bed linen. A silk duvet cover brings the same smooth feel to the layer you pull around you.
Whether you want a silk bedding set or one carefully chosen piece, check what is included on each product page. A sheet, duvet cover and pillowcase may be sold separately; choosing by component lets you select the right size for each part of the bed. Our silk duvet sets bring together a duvet cover, fitted sheet and two pillowcases for a coordinated start.
Colour, cut and a British design point of view
There is more than one way to dress a silk bed. Build a calm foundation with Ivory, Cream or Brilliant White, bring warmth through Champagne or Precious Pink, or introduce the softer depth of Oyster Grey. Midnight Blue, Charcoal, Pastel Blue and Teal Breeze give the range a different mood. Check current colours and size availability in the product grid. A matching duvet cover and fitted sheet create a continuous field of colour; mixed shades and printed pillowcases give the room a more personal rhythm. Classic outlines keep the cloth in focus. Contrast piping draws a fine line across the bed, while Oxford borders create a more framed finish. Plain silk sheets can be the foundation for a printed pillowcase with real personality.
Silk bed linen also works with cotton or linen pieces you already love. You can begin with a single sheet, then add other layers as you discover how you prefer to sleep.
What makes good Mulberry silk bed linen?
Begin with the fibre composition. Pure Mulberry silk is real silk: a natural protein fibre, rather than a silk blend or a synthetic fabric with a silky feel. It is worth checking the label when comparing silk bedding offers: satin describes a weave, while silk describes the fibre. Satin sheets are not necessarily silk sheets.
Next, look at Momme. This measures silk fabric weight, rather than the thread count commonly used for cotton sheets. Silk bedding commonly comes in weights around 19–25 Momme. Our 22 Momme silk balances substance with a supple drape. That combination feels soft without losing the substance that makes a generous sheet satisfying to handle. Grade 6A describes the fibre grade; Momme describes fabric weight. Neither replaces the importance of the weave and finishing. The weave and finishing matter too. Mayfairsilk's soft matte surface has a subtle sheen, giving the bed depth without a high-gloss appearance.
Finally, consider fit and finishing. The most beautiful fabric should also work with your mattress and duvet. Match each component to its own measurements and choose the outline, colour and border detail that suits your room.
Find the right size for your bed
Our bed linen range includes UK Single, Double, King, Super King and Emperor sizes, with availability varying by product and colour. Use the bedding size chart to compare dimensions rather than relying on a size name alone, particularly if your bed or duvet was bought outside the UK.
For fitted sheets, measure mattress width, length and depth, including any topper you leave in place. For a duvet cover, measure the duvet insert. For a flat sheet, think about the drop you want at either side and how much fabric you like to tuck beneath the mattress.
Comfort that belongs in every season
Silk feels smooth and cool at first touch, and its naturally breathable fibre makes it a pleasing choice for year-round bed linen. Silk is naturally temperature regulating and absorbs less moisture than highly absorbent cotton, helping skin and hair retain more of their natural moisture. Its smooth natural protein structure lets skin glide with less friction, while silk pillowcases help reduce hair tangling, frizz and friction-related breakage, while helping minimise temporary sleep creases. How warm a bed feels still depends on your duvet, mattress, room and personal preference. Hot sleepers may prefer lighter layers on warm nights; colder months call for an appropriate duvet.
Silk bed sheets sit at a higher price point than many everyday cotton sheets, so look beyond a silky appearance. Check the fibre, weight, construction and finish, and choose a piece you will enjoy using often. The reason to choose Mayfairsilk is the complete experience: the softness, the way the fabric moves and the quiet beauty of a well-made bed. With appropriate care, quality silk can give years of enjoyment. The natural sheen, exceptional softness and fluid movement make it a material choice you can enjoy every evening.
How to wash silk bedding
Our bed linen can be machine washed on a silk or delicate cycle, using water below 30°C, a mesh laundry bag and a pH-neutral, enzyme-free detergent suitable for silk. Wash separately from rough fabrics. Avoid bleach, fabric softener and tumble drying; air dry in the shade, away from direct sunlight.
Always follow the product label and our silk care guide. Before ordering, review our returns terms: other full-price products have a 30-day return period from delivery, subject to unused, unwashed, unmarked and resalable condition with original unmarked packaging. Sale items are outside the extended policy and statutory rights are unaffected.
Silk bed sheet questions, answered
Is Mulberry silk the same as real silk?
Mulberry silk is a type of real silk. Mayfairsilk sheets and duvet covers use 100% Grade 6A long-fibre Mulberry silk in 22 Momme. Check fibre composition when comparing products, as a silky appearance alone does not identify silk.
Does a silk bedding set include pillowcases?
Check the individual product listing for exactly what is included. Our collection lets you choose sheets, duvet covers and pillowcases by component, so you can match each piece to your bed and pillow dimensions.
Can I use silk sheets with my existing bedding?
Yes. Start with a fitted sheet or flat sheet and combine it with the duvet cover and pillowcases you already own. Add coordinating Mayfairsilk pieces whenever you wish.
Are silk sheets difficult to care for?
They need a gentler wash than everyday cotton bedding, but Mayfairsilk bed linen is machine washable on the appropriate silk or delicate cycle. Use water below 30°C, suitable detergent and a laundry bag, then air dry in the shade. Follow the product label and our linked care guide.
Is silk bedding worth the investment?
Choose silk if the smooth feel, fluid drape and way it dresses the bedroom matter to you. Genuine silk is typically more expensive than standard cotton or polyester, so compare composition, Momme weight, fibre grade and construction. Start with the silk products you will touch most, choosing the fabric and finish that feel right against your skin. Mayfairsilk combines 22 Momme sheets and duvet covers with 25 Momme pillowcases. Start with one piece if you would like to discover the difference before dressing the whole bed. If you want a good night's sleep to begin with a bed you love getting into, its feel deserves as much attention as its appearance.
What is the difference between silk sheets and satin sheets?
Silk describes a natural fibre, made primarily of protein. Satin describes a weave, which can be made from silk or synthetic fibres such as polyester. A silky feel does not establish that a fabric is real silk. Mayfairsilk bed linen is pure Mulberry silk, rather than polyester satin or a silk blend. Check labels carefully, including products described as eucalyptus silk, which are not silkworm silk.
Are silk sheets suitable for sensitive skin and warm nights?
The naturally smooth surface can feel gentle against sensitive skin. Mulberry silk is naturally hypoallergenic, but does not prevent allergies or treat skin conditions. Silk's temperature regulating properties and breathability support comfort across the seasons. Temperature regulation depends on the whole bed and your room, rather than the sheet maintaining one fixed body temperature. For hot sleepers, adjust the duvet and room too; a heavy duvet or heat-retaining memory foam mattress can affect comfort whatever your sheets are made from.
How do I choose the right size for each piece?
Measure mattress width, length and depth for fitted sheets, including a topper. Match the duvet cover to the insert, and choose flat sheets with enough fabric to tuck or drape. Standard pillowcases measure 50 × 75 cm and Super King pillowcases measure 50 × 90 cm. UK King fitted sheets are 150 × 200 cm, while King duvet covers are 230 × 220 cm. Use the size chart for the complete range.
Can silk sheets go in the tumble dryer, and can I iron them?
Avoid tumble drying: silk is sensitive to heat. Air dry away from direct sunlight and radiators, without wringing. If needed, use a cool iron on the reverse while slightly damp, following the product label. Store clean, fully dry sheets in a cool, dry place, ideally in a breathable cotton bag. Read our care guide before the first wash.
What are the practical drawbacks of silk bedding?
Silk requires more careful washing and handling than everyday cotton or linen. Use a pH-neutral, enzyme-free silk-friendly detergent, a delicate cycle below 30°C and a mesh laundry bag, then air dry. Avoid bleach, fabric softener, sharp jewellery and pulling the silk tight around a mattress. For many people, that extra care is a small part of enjoying the fabric's softness every night.
