What is included in a silk duvet set?
Our silk bedding sets bring together a duvet cover, a fitted sheet and two silk pillowcases. The duvet cover and sheet use 22 Momme pure Mulberry silk; the pillowcases use a more substantial 25 Momme silk. All share our signature soft-touch matte finish.
The silk duvet cover is a removable outer case that helps protect your duvet insert while bringing silk against your skin. A set does not include a duvet insert, pillow inserts or a flat sheet. If you enjoy a separate top layer, add one from our silk flat sheets. Check the contents, bed size, pillowcase size and fitted-sheet depth on the selected product before ordering. Matching the components to your bed matters more than buying everything under one size name.
Colour and Oxford details, designed in London
Ivory, Cream and Brilliant White make a light foundation. Midnight Blue and Charcoal bring depth; Precious Pink and Pastel Blue give the room a softer mood. Oxford sets in Champagne and Oyster Grey offer a framed finish, while Ivory with an Oyster Grey border and Brilliant White with Champagne introduce contrast. Use the product grid for the colours and sizes currently available.
Classic sets keep the outline simple and let the cloth lead. Oxford styles add a decorative border to the duvet cover and pillowcases. Some Oxford designs also have tone-on-tone piping, a small detail that gives the edge definition. A two-colour set can combine the duvet cover and pillowcases with a different fitted-sheet colour. Mulberry silk, from the first touch to the last lie-in
We use pure long-fibre Grade 6A Mulberry silk, a natural fibre made primarily of protein. Its naturally smooth surface lets skin and hair glide with less friction, and the silk drapes around the body without a bulky feel. You feel the difference as you turn over or draw the covers around you: a supple, gentle fabric that moves with the body.
Momme measures silk fabric weight. Silk bedding commonly comes in weights around 19–25 Momme. Our 22 Momme sheets and silk duvet covers balance substance and fluid drape, while 25 Momme pillowcases have a pleasing weight against your cheek. For the same area, 22 Momme fabric weighs more than 19 Momme silk. That added substance can give a fuller feel; softness and durability also depend on weave, fibre quality and finishing. Grade, weight, weave and finishing each contribute something different to the quality. When comparing labels, STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX concerns testing for harmful substances, while Momme describes fabric weight.
Silk has a natural sheen. Mayfairsilk's bespoke weave and finishing give it a soft matte surface with a quiet lustre. Individually hand-cut and machine-stitched, the pieces are expertly crafted to bring material and design together. With appropriate care, quality silk bed linen can give years of enjoyment.
Choose the fit for each part of the bed
Measure the mattress width, length and full height, including a topper. The fitted sheet needs enough depth to wrap around comfortably, without pulling the silk tight. Check the depth specified for the selected set rather than assuming that every size is identical.
Measure the duvet insert separately. A UK King duvet cover measures 230 × 220 cm and UK Super King measures 260 × 220 cm. Standard pillowcases measure 50 × 75 cm; Super King pillowcases measure 50 × 90 cm. Selected larger sets offer a choice of pillowcase size, so measure the pillows you own.

Comfort that goes beyond the photograph
Silk feels cool at first touch and is naturally breathable and temperature regulating. It absorbs less moisture than highly absorbent cotton, helping skin and hair retain more of their natural moisture. Our silk pillowcases help reduce hair friction, tangling, frizz and friction-related breakage, and can help minimise temporary sleep creases.
The smooth fabric can feel comfortable against sensitive skin. Mulberry silk is naturally hypoallergenic, but that does not mean it prevents allergies or treats a skin condition. The appeal is both practical and tactile: a soft, flowing surface that feels good to come home to. The natural sheen and smooth drape give the room an elegant finish, with silk bed sheets that feel as inviting as they look.
For year round comfort, choose your duvet insert for the season and room. Hot sleepers may prefer a lighter tog on warmer nights. Silk's temperature regulation supports a comfortable sleep environment; a cover does not make a heavy winter duvet into a summer one. The fitted sheet, mattress, protector and room all play a part.

Is a silk duvet set the same as a silk-filled duvet?
No. This collection is bed linen: the fabric cover, sheet and pillowcases around your duvet, mattress and pillows. A silk-filled duvet describes the insulating filling inside an insert. Choose the insert's tog rating for your room and the season, then enjoy the feel of pure silk around it.
How do I choose between Standard and Super King pillowcases?
Measure the pillows themselves. Standard fits 50 × 75 cm pillows; Super King fits 50 × 90 cm pillows. Some Super King and Emperor sets offer both options, so choose the appropriate variant. A larger mattress does not automatically mean that you own larger pillows.
What is the difference between Classic and Oxford sets?
Classic gives the bed a simple outline. Oxford adds a decorative border to frame the duvet cover and pillowcases. The border may match the centre or contrast with it; check the photographs for your chosen design. Both styles use 22 Momme bed linen and 25 Momme pillowcases, so choose the cut that feels right for your bedroom.
Is Mulberry silk real silk, and how does it differ from satin?
Mulberry silk is real silk. “100% silk” describes composition; Mulberry identifies the type of silk. A satin weave can be made from silk or polyester, so the word satin does not identify the fibre. A silky appearance alone is not enough to identify the fibre. Mayfairsilk duvet sets use pure Mulberry silk rather than polyester satin or a silk blend.
Will a silk bedding set be comfortable in summer and winter?
Yes, with the right layers for your room. Silk is naturally breathable and helps regulate temperature, supporting comfort through the seasons. It is not a fixed-temperature cooling system, so adjust your duvet, sleepwear and room as you normally would. On warmer nights, you may prefer a separate top sheet instead of a duvet.
Can I wash silk bedding in the washing machine?
Yes. Mayfairsilk bed linen can be machine washed when you follow the care label and our silk care guide. Use a silk or delicate cycle in cool or lukewarm water below 30°C, a roomy mesh laundry bag and a pH-neutral, enzyme-free specialist silk detergent. Choose a silk-friendly detergent that protects the protein fibre. Wash separately from other fabrics, avoid bleach and fabric softener, and leave space for the fabric to move. Do not force the whole set into an overloaded drum.
How should I dry and iron a silk duvet set?
Air dry in the shade, away from direct sunlight, radiators and other heat. Silk should not be tumble dried. Support wet fabric and avoid wringing or twisting. If ironing is needed, use a cool silk setting on the reverse while slightly damp, with a clean pressing cloth between iron and silk, following the label. Store clean, completely dry pieces in a cool, dry place.
Should I buy a set or choose individual silk bed sheets?
A set is a straightforward way to coordinate the bed in one purchase. Individual silk fitted sheets, silk duvet covers and pillowcases offer more freedom if you need different dimensions or want to mix colours. Compare the current selected set price and contents with the same pieces individually. Genuine silk costs more than many cotton sheets or polyester options, so choose the combination you will enjoy using.
